Dr Joanne McGilp is an experienced dentist at Hayat Dental in Broadway, Chippendale, with more than 12 years of clinical experience across hospitals, community clinics and private practice. Known for her warm and reassuring manner, she has a particular gift for putting nervous patients at ease and a genuine passion for helping people feel confident about their smile again.
After graduating in dentistry from the University of Glasgow in 2013, Dr Joanne has worked across an unusually broad range of clinical settings, including hospital dentistry, community dental clinics and private practice. That variety has given her a strong, well-rounded clinical foundation and experience with patients of every age, background and level of dental need.
Dr Joanne has a particular interest in root canal treatment, cosmetic dentistry and Invisalign. She finds it especially rewarding to combine the two sides of dentistry, restoring teeth so they work properly and last, while also improving how they look. Whether she is saving a tooth that a patient assumed was beyond help, straightening a smile with clear aligners or refreshing worn front teeth, her focus stays on results that look natural and hold up over time.
She is also known throughout the practice for her work with anxious patients. Having spent much of her career treating people who find dentistry difficult, Dr Joanne has developed a calm, patient and unhurried style. She explains each step in plain language, checks in often and works at a pace her patient is comfortable with, which is why many people who had avoided treatment for years feel able to return to regular care with her.
Dr Joanne thrives on continued learning and recently completed her MFDS, a postgraduate qualification awarded by the Royal College following further examination in clinical dentistry. She continues to undertake ongoing professional education so her patients benefit from current techniques and evidence-based treatment options.
