We gently numb the area with a local anaesthetic so the treatment itself is pain-free. We take the time to make sure you are completely comfortable before going any further. If you feel nervous, just tell us, and we will adjust the pace to suit you.
Using fine, modern instruments, we carefully remove the decayed part of the tooth while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible. The area is then cleaned to make sure no bacteria are left behind before the filling goes in.
We place the filling material in layers, shaping it carefully to restore the natural contour of your tooth. For composite (white) fillings, each layer is cured with a special light so the material bonds firmly to the tooth surface.

At Hayat Dental, we focus on tooth-coloured composite and ceramic restorations for new fillings. If you have an existing amalgam filling that needs attention, we can discuss whether replacing it is the right choice for you.
For larger cavities, a ceramic restoration made in a dental lab offers excellent strength and a very natural finish. Because each piece is custom-crafted to fit your tooth precisely, treatment usually takes two visits. Your dentist will recommend one when a standard filling would not be strong enough for the tooth.
Glass ionomer is a gentle filling material that slowly releases fluoride, helping protect the tooth around it. We often use it for smaller fillings, areas near the gumline, and children’s baby teeth. It is not as strong as composite, so we recommend it only where it genuinely suits the tooth.

Costs depend on the size of the cavity, the number of tooth surfaces involved and the material used. We provide a written quote with your full out-of-pocket cost before any treatment begins, and we apply your health fund benefit on the spot through HICAPS.
Most fillings are completed in 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the cavity and the material used. Ceramic inlays and onlays usually take two appointments, since they are made in a dental lab between visits.
You will not feel pain during the procedure, because the area is fully numbed with local anaesthetic. Some mild sensitivity for a few days after the appointment is normal and usually settles on its own. If it continues beyond a few weeks, contact us so we can check the tooth.

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, composite fillings typically last between five and ten years, and ceramic restorations often last longer. The lifespan depends on the size of the filling, your bite, grinding habits and how well the tooth is cared for at home.
Avoid eating until the anaesthetic has worn off, and keep your normal brushing and flossing routine. Be a little gentler on very hot, cold, hard or sticky foods for the first day or two. After that, treat the tooth normally and keep up your regular check-ups.
