Years of heavy grinding had left this patient’s teeth chipped, sensitive and discoloured. With his daughter’s wedding coming up, he wanted to feel confident smiling in the photos.

The wear was spread across the whole mouth, and the bite had lost height. A full set of porcelain crowns was not within budget, so we planned a combination that fixed the bite and the look at a lower cost.

Planning the new bite
We assessed how far the bite needed to be opened to give the worn teeth room to be rebuilt.

Porcelain crowns on the front teeth
The front teeth, which show most when smiling, were rebuilt with porcelain crowns.

Resin build-ups on the back teeth
The back teeth were built up with resin to open the bite, a lower-cost alternative to crowns.

Protective mouthguard
A mouthguard protects the new work from ongoing grinding.
